Course Detail
DescriptionComing from a long lineage of art dealers, collectors, and art historians, Carl Kostyál is one of the most dynamic tastemakers in the art market today. He opened his first gallery in London in 2010 and operates two more spaces in Milan and Stockholm. Over his twenty-year-long career as an art dealer, he has tirelessly exhibited untested, risk-taking emerging artists such as Austin Lee or Sun Woo, both of which recently burst onto the global stage. Additionally, Kostyál has continuously championed the overlooked, neglected, and, in some cases, forgotten talents. In his presentation, Kostyál will talk about his unique journey in the art world, how to create a market for artists, how to spot talent and share his experience of working with private collectors and museums. He will discuss what skills he believes a successful art dealer needs and about his personal vision for the art market’s future.Meet the PresenterCarl KostyálSwedish-Hungarian born, Milan and London-based art dealer Carl Kostyál opened his eponymous gallery focusing on emerging artists in London in 2010 after a decade of private dealing and advising. He launched his first Stockholm space in 2013. In addition to the London and Stockholm outposts, Kostyál commissions artist projects at his home in Milan. The gallery regularly stages offsite exhibitions in the UK and Sweden, runs invitational artist residency programs at Masseria Fontana di Vite, Matera (Italy) and Mohilef Studios, Los Angeles (USA).
